We’ve all seen the movies where students worry about a big test, decide to buck the system, and create elaborate schemes to pass without putting in the effort of studying. From stealing tests, writing answers on gum wrappers, to re-printing labels on coke bottles with the information filled in; we’ve all seen. I’m sure we’ve all thought about it, but there has got to be a better way.

First of all, cheating only becomes a problem if you are caught. Teachers will ramble at you for hours on end how you need to learn and master all of the information, because their course is of such high importance. Really. Intro to Performing Arts; honestly, I know for a fact that I will never, ever need anything that I learned in that class. A wasted semester to say the least.

Back to the idea of getting caught. The punishments are steep, to say the least. Failing the class, kicked out of school, red letters on the transcript, etc. Nothing that anyone in their right mind would want. Obviously, to avoid those negative consequences, it is important to minimize the risk. To do that, you need to make sure that there is no possible way to get caught. How you ask? Simple.

We all sleep at night, and hopefully most of us wake up refreshed. When we look back at yesterday, suddenly all of those worries seem to have answers or at least worry us a little less. While you were sleeping, your brain helped bridge certain connections and helped figure out some solutions that you may not have thought of.

I haven’t done any research for this, so this is all coming out of my memory, but some really famous people in history used the Power of Sleep to Boost Productivity as well as find the unknown answers to certain questions. Thomas Edison and if I’m not mistaken Ben Franklin were guilty of taking many naps throughout the day, because they knew how much it would help them immediately.

There was a study done that two groups of people were taught information, and were tested on their recollection of the information several hours later. The only difference being that one of the groups got to take a nap between the learning and the testing. The results; The Napping group had scores of TEN TIMES that of the other group. 10 Times. That result is gigantic, and only further supports the evidence that napping can help you.

The past few days have completely flown by. I have been running from place to place with all of these new business ideas. It feels like it was just yesterday that I made my last post, but in reality it was a little further back. As for new learning techniques that I can suggest. It is huge, but YouTube.

Anything you want to learn, type it in there and you will be learning from someone who knows more than you, and made a video to even out the playing field. If you mix that with MySpeed you can pack a huge learning session in a very short period of time. Help with homework, book summaries, tips in social situations, and just pure fun.

That’s all for now. Go learn on YouTube. So much on there. Go check it out. ~

There are hundreds of memory techniques out there that will make it easier to put whatever information you want into your mind. Most, if not all of them will work to some extent. They can help your brain learn how your brain wants to learn, removing the effort from your part to pack it all in. Look around SpeedStudent.com and you will see a ton of these techniques that you can put into practice immediately; HOWEVER, there is one skill that you need to develop, that is more important than all the rest. Confidence.

Plain and simple, Confidence. You can master every single technique that is out there, but without confidence you will always be doubting yourself and will take hours to learn information that should take you minutes. Tell yourself how amazing your brain is, and how easy it is for you to learn. If you can actually believe it, then it’s true.

If you have never heard of Derren Brown, I highly suggest that you take a few minutes and look into him a little bit more. He is from the UK and is a famous hypnotist/mentalist/illusionist/magician/entertainer/painter. He has had tons of TV shows, has released several movies, written books, and does a show on tour. The tricks he does are amazing, and are seemingly unmatched by anyone who I have come across. He really does incredible things (the list is endless, so the vague “thing” is appropriate), so check him on YouTube.

On one of his shows, he wanted to prove his ability to count cards. There are several different methods to doing this, but I will quickly run over a short lesson. continue reading…

When I was younger, I was diagnosed with ADHD. In the past, I have been prescribed Adderall and Ritalin, but a few years back, I decided that it was no longer necessary for me to keep taking the medication. First of all, I am not a doctor, and am not giving any medical advice in the least bit, rather I am going to tell you a personal story, and let you choose what to take from it. I used to love popping the pill in my mouth, waiting for 15 minutes, and then being able to write a college thesis in the next 2 hours that was worthy of an A+. This was a performance enhancing drug at its best.

I could read for hours, write for hours, and stay up for days. It was like a super power that gave me an unfair advantage over all the other students. Despite all of the benefits that I experienced, I decided to stop taking the medication. Some self righteous cleansing of the body was probably the driving force behind the decision. It is not that I regret the decision, it just makes me wonder where I would be in my life had I not given up my super powers.

It has been years since I have gone near the stuff, but every now and then I do hear about it in the news or from friends who have recently come into contact. There are tons of articles out there written by health professionals who say “just make it legal,” because the benefits far outweigh the minimal negative side effects. continue reading…

Surprisingly people enjoyed the mind mapping post from the other day, so I figured I would track down some free software that people could download and begin mapping on their computer immediately. You can find the software at http://www.thebrain.com/ and it is an instant download. There is a video that you can watch that explains how to use the software in a little bit more detail. It seems comparable to the mindjet software, in the main features. Obviously the more expensive software brings more to the table than the freeware, but for any practical application, the free ware would suffice. So enjoy the software and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I have always been fascinated by languages. In college, I studied French, Spanish, and Italian (I was enrolled in Chinese for a month, but the 8am class wasn’t in my list of priorities). In the past, I have tried to teach myself many more languages simply by grabbing books from the library and hoping that it would be possible to extract all of the information that I needed to speak the language fluently. Needless to say, all of my self motivated language learning ended without anything to show for it.

During college, I was fortunate enough to live in a suite with a guy who owned tons of software, and would occasionally let me borrow whatever I needed to help me study. This was the first time that I came into contact with the Rosetta Stone Software. It is hard to miss the constant commercials and hear about The Navy, Nasa, and many other top groups using the software, and not want to try it out for yourself.

Honestly, when I first loaded the software on to my computer, I was a little disappointed. Simply a screen would pop up and say a phrase in the foreign language, and you had to decide which picture they were talking about. For example, they would say “the boy jumps” in French, and you would need to click on the picture of the boy jumping, not the girl or the airplane. It seemed way to simple to be effective.
